The essence of the Massive Passive, in a single rack space

The Langevin Mini Massive is a compact and powerful stereo EQ that captures the heart of the legendary Massive Passive. It’s an elegant and affordable solution for engineers who want the classic passive EQ sound without the size or cost. This unit is based on the same passive EQ sections as the Massive Passive’s low and high bands, delivering a rich, musical tone with a versatility that belies its simple design.

The Soul of the Massive Passive

The Mini Massive gives you access to the iconic curves and tonal character of the Massive Passive's most-used bands. Its all-discrete solid-state make-up gain stages are meticulously tuned to provide a clean, punchy output, while its optional hand-wound Manley IRON® transformers allow you to dial in a touch of classic warmth and smoothness. A "3-position IRON switch" on the back allows you to engage the transformers, bypass them for a cleaner sound, or use a "more vintage" transformer setting.

New Power, New Precision

Building on a classic foundation, the Mini Massive introduces modern features for enhanced control. The high-frequency section now includes new, higher-Q bell curves for the top four frequencies, allowing for precise, surgical adjustments that were previously unavailable. A refined, low-noise power supply with both series and shunt regulators ensures a pristine signal path, while the true hard-wire bypass guarantees that your unprocessed signal remains pure.

A Legacy of Affordability and Excellence

The Mini Massive embodies Manley’s commitment to making world-class sound accessible. It is meticulously hand-crafted in California, built with the same uncompromising quality and attention to detail as our most expensive gear. As a powerful, all-discrete stereo EQ with a timeless tone and modern flexibility, it is an indispensable tool for any professional or project studio.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Langevin Mini Massive is a compact and more affordable version of the Manley Massive Passive EQ. While the Massive Passive is a four-band, all-tube equalizer, the Mini Massive is a two-band, all-discrete solid-state stereo EQ. It's designed to capture the core sonic character of the Massive Passive's high and low bands. The Mini Massive offers a similar musical, passive EQ sound but in a smaller, more accessible package, making it an excellent choice for those who want that signature tone without the size or cost of its bigger sibling.

The Mini Massive provides a variety of EQ curve options for powerful tone shaping. For both the low and high frequencies, you can choose between a Shelf or a Bell curve. The high-frequency section also features a new, higher Q Bell option for the top four frequencies (8.2 kHz, 12 kHz, 18 kHz, and 27 kHz). This allows for more precise, surgical adjustments to the high end, expanding the unit's versatility from broad musical shaping to more focused problem-solving.

The "IRON" switch on the back of the Mini Massive allows you to engage the unit's custom-wound Manley output transformers. This three-position switch provides a choice between three output modes: BYPASS, which offers a transparent, transformerless signal; IRON, which engages the transformers for a touch of classic warmth and smoothness; and VINTAGE, which provides a richer, more saturated, and vintage-like sound. This feature allows you to tailor the unit's tonal color to your needs.

The all-discrete, solid-state design of the Mini Massive's gain stages provides a slightly different sonic character from an all-tube design. While it still offers the musicality and immense headroom that Manley is known for, it is also faster, cleaner, and has a lower noise floor. This design choice results in a punchy, clear sound that is ideal for modern production while still providing a professional analog warmth that solid-state EQs often lack.

The Mini Massive is a two-channel stereo equalizer, meaning you can process a single stereo signal or two separate mono signals simultaneously. Its robust design and versatile features make it an excellent workhorse for processing anything from a full mix to individual tracks like vocals, drums, or bass.

Yes, the Mini Massive is an excellent tool for mastering. Its detented controls provide precise and repeatable settings for easy recall, which is a crucial feature for mastering engineers. The ability to switch between a clean, transparent sound (with the transformers bypassed) and a warmer, more colorful tone (with the IRON switch engaged) makes it a versatile tool for adding a final layer of sonic polish to a mix.
